Here are a few views of our past week…
we’ve done some characteristically “spring” things, so I tried to capture them with collages…enjoy!
Last Saturday: Making Kulich and Sirny Paska with Aunt Vera, Aunt Letty, Jack, and my mom. Kulich (“koo-leech”) is a traditional Russian sweet bread, and Sirny (“seernee”) Paska is a sweet cheese (it was decided by my soon-to-be-cousin Jessica that it is a sweet paste that comes close to the cheese in cheesecake). Both are homemade, of course, and require almost a whole day of preparation. Kulich is baked in coffee cans to give it a tall cylindrical shape. My mom’s mom (Baba) was visiting my uncle and aunt and newest cousin in Dallas for Easter, but called us about 4 times that day just to make sure we were doing it right. 🙂
Easter Sunday: Christ Is Risen (“Христос Воскрес“)! He Is Risen Indeed (“Воистину воскрес“)!!
(Now you know what the “XB” stands for )
Bottom Left: Sirny Paska, Bottom Right: Kulich.
Top with sugared strawberries and you have the taste of Easter!
P.S. Thanks for the Easter outfits for both my boys, Mom A.!! Jack managed to stay “clean and dry” in those shorts for most of the day… 🙂
Thursday: We spent a beautiful and refreshing day at Descanso Gardens …
…with some beautiful people — my mom, sister Melissa, Aunt Kelly, cousin Caleb, and Shelby
Today: I got to go downtown with Lisa to the Flower District…such a fun and unique experience! Lisa is doing wedding flowers for some friends of ours, and today was the preview day to get ideas. I can’t wait to see how it turns out…she is amazing!
Downtown Los Angeles
Here’s a few of the ones she’ll be using…you can’t really tell in the center pic, but our arms were completely FULL of HUGE bouquets of flowers (and they were heavy). Next time we’ll do what we saw one girl doing and bring a rolling cooler to carry them in. Thanks for the lilacs, Lis!!! I had a great day with you!
Yea for Spring Pics and the Flower Market! Super Fun!
