Wait for it…

Living a simple sweet life, and learning to wait on the Lord

My 5 Year Old November 21, 2009

Last week my little boy turned 5!!!   It feels like a big milestone.  I almost can’t believe it.

Jack chose to take his dad and his 2 friends David and Isaac “golfing” with him for his birthday.  David’s dad Dave came along and took some awesome pictures…thanks, Dave!

He’s so cute

 Love this guy.

 Such characters

Jack: “This is the best kind of day…putt-putt golf with your friends, happy meals for lunch…” (insert sigh of contentment here)

Last Saturday, my little boy turned 4 years old!!  Ryan and I are so incredibly thankful for Jackson Moses Dean (‘Jack-Jack,” “JMoses,” “Jackster,” “Punky”) and for the way that God is shaping his life.  He makes us laugh daily, and sometimes we have to shake our heads at his questions, advanced vocabulary, and surprisingly accurate observations about life.  He loves music, superheroes, going to Master’s Kids, and candy.  He can say and identify all the letters of the alphabet (I had to add that b/c I was a Kindergarten teacher. 🙂  We are praying for his understanding of the Gospel and his sin to deepen, and that he would repent and accept God’s free gift of salvation.  We love our Jackson Boy!

After Chuck E Cheese, we were so happy to get to meet up with more favorite friends, the Bohrs, who were on their way home to Fresno.  Jack loves Ethan and Ellie!!

This collage needs some explanation…we had planned to have a family party on Saturday at my parents’, but that was the day that fires were threatening numerous parts of Sothern California, which closed the freeways directly in our path.  Sooooo…after much discussion, we decided that although we would cancel the party, we still would try to get to my parents’ house.  We knew it would take a lot longer than normal to go all the way around (if you look closely in the top left pic, you’ll see the line of cars stretching endlessly in front of us as we drove between 1 and 2 mph), but we agreed that it was better than sitting at home being sad.  The other top row pics are of some cool scenery we passed as we went over the hill to Moorpark.  When we got on the 101 (finally), we stopped to get McDonald’s Mc Flurrys, since Jack was being a trooper.  I got really sad when he asked at one point, “Is my party over already?”  The rest of the shots are of the smoky scenes we passed.  After 5 HOURS of driving, we made it!!

My sweet mom and sister did a lot to make sure Jack still had a fun “mini” party, complete with extra presents and balloons.

The wonderful family members who were able to be there: Debbee, Aunt Melissa (“Mimi”), Baba and Deda (who almost got evacuated themselves), and of course, the wonderful Papa and Nana!  We had a great evening together.`

My 30th Birthday September 23, 2008

Tuesday, September 16, 2008: A Practically Perfect Day…

A birthday present from God…this amazing morning sky!

I was so happy to spend my birthday morning at Master’s Kids with Jack…we did a fish stamping craft…with a REAL (dead) fish!!  Definitely a yummy smell in the room…one of the instructions to the moms was: “Don’t say ‘GROSS’ or ‘YUCK!'”  One of my aunts told me she was proud of me for smiling in this picture, but it really wasn’t that bad…I think the teacher in me came out a little.  🙂

Jack wanted to paint with each color…I love this shot of him!

After Master’s Kids, Jack and I walked out to our car to find…Ryan standing there!  That was a total surprise, since I thought he was at work.  He had brought a Lemon Brulee Scone from Julienne AND these lovely flowers…how sweet is that????

We headed out to pick up my mom, and continued on to Orange County, where we met my sister.  Then came the next surprise of the day…an afternoon at Burke Williams Spa!!!!   Oh. My. Word.  Complete and total relaxation perfection.  Seriously.  I highly recommend this place and am planning on going back someday!  Such a sweet time with my mom and sister…

Next stop:  Disneyland for a birthday button, birthday phone call from Goofy, and of course a few pictures!

Another surprise…dinner at Roy’s, where I was given my own personalized Happy Birthday menu!  Definitely the coolest menu I’ve ever gotten..

Views from our table…SUCH a delicious meal, aaaand dessert was on the house!  Even a special personalized plate for Jack.

People I love who were there to share dinner with me… (thanks, Aunt Lana, for treating us all!!!)

My incredible husband worked so hard on every detail to make sure it was a special surprise day for me…I don’t deserve this man!!!!

I don’t deserve this sweet sister, either…she put SO much thought and care into this day.

Oh!  I almost forgot…here are some of my birthday presents (as if the day’s events weren’t enough…)!

I LOVE this cookbook!  So stinkin’ cute.

Oh yeah.  And, along with the dvd set, I also got a Green Gables Girls Getaway weekend in October!!!  CANNOT wait!!!

Every girl’s dream: the little blue box…and what came in it (from my husband…I know…seriously spoiled!)

Thank you, dear family members, for this day!!!  And, thank you, dear Lord, for being SO good to me…I do not deserve these blessings, or your love.

In my next post: The Party!  Maybe, just maybe, I will find the time to download the new Picasa before then…

Happy Birthday, Aunt Ellen!

collage10.jpg

(sorry the quality of your picture isn’t the greatest…its a long story that I won’t get into, but suffice it to say it was the only one I had access to today)

My Aunt Ellen is an inspiration to me.  She is an example of a godly and faithful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.  She keeps our family connected and aware of events, birthdays, needs, and prayer requests.  She has shown me what it means to joyfully follow Christ and learn how to be calm, content and creative, even in circumstances that don’t seem ideal.  She is gracious, hospitable, friendly, and fun.  She is truly a refreshing person to be around.  The pictures I chose above reminded me of her…because of their beauty, serenity, and happiness.  Oh, and also, she is one of the reasons I started my blog.  🙂

Hope you had a wonderful day today, Aunt Ellen.  I’m thankful for your life!

“…she who refreshes others will herself be refreshed.”

Proverbs 11:25

(I took some liberties and changed the verse just a little…it seemed appropriate!)

P.S.  I didn’t have it together enough this week to get a real card out to you…so this is my feeble attempt…  🙂

To catch up… December 15, 2007

So I know it has been forever since I’ve posted…partly because we’ve been having computer and internet issues (yes, BOTH…separate issues, same time), and partly, because of life.  I’ve figured out that I’m not the kind of blogger yet, or maybe will never be, who blogs about absolutely everything.  Because for me, I am too busy experiencing life to sit down and actually have enough time to share everything with the whole world.  For me it requires too much formulating and processing and proofreading and alone time, which haven’t been abundant lately.  That doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking and praying and learning…there have actually been quite a few significant events in my life and the lives of those I love, both joys and sorrows.  And I’ve had quite a few moments where I think, “This would be a great blog post…”  But there just hasn’t been the time to sit down and do it, not to mention a computer that kept dying and an internet connection that kept disconnecting…

Here are some highlights from the past month…

In November, Jack turned 3!!  It was another reminder that I don’t have a baby anymore…and a reminder of sweet friends and family, who show us such love and support as we raise our son.  We celebrated with a Cars bday party at Nana and Papa’s, and a few visits to Disneyland.  I was so pleased that my racetrack cake actually worked!! (thanks to Jamie for the idea)  🙂

We’ve spent some fun times with friends…

…and we got our Christmas tree!

(I love this picture)

You know what else we love this year?

That’s all for now.

Thanks, family and friends for making our birthdays so special (there are a few things missing b/c I didn’t get pics, but we still appreciate them!!)…and especially Miss and Deb, who always do SO much to make sure we feel loved, cherished and celebrated on the days we were born…and one more thank you to Aunt Lana, who made a few specific “little” birthday wishes come true for both of us…you are TOO much and you made our day!!

My Husband’s Birthday September 28, 2007

Filed under: Birthdays — Michelle @ 11:52 pm

Tomorrow is my sweet husband Ryan’s birthday…the big “3-0!!”  Since we are leaving in the morning to go to Julienne for breakfast (yes, we are going again…we use any excuse we can), I thought I would post this tonight (even though I only have 10 more minutes until tomorrow…)  If I had more money than I do, I would buy him an iPod.

I am thankful to the Lord for creating Ryan on September 29, 1977, and for the way He allowed our paths to cross at The Master’s College and in Majesty in 1998 (ok…I’m feeling old…)

I’m thankful to Mom and Dad Anthony for raising such a wonderful son.

I’m thankful to Ryan for asking me to be his wife in 2001…I love sharing life with you!

I saw this idea on someone’s blog and I liked it…I’m going to come up with 30 clever things to say about why I love Ryan Dean Anthony, although of course there are really millions of reasons I love him… 🙂 These are in no particular order, by the way.

1. He is my best friend.  2. He loves God.  3. He is really smart, and cares about accuracy.  4. He isn’t fake.  5. He loves me all the time, even when I am really unloveable.  6. He works hard to take care of his family.  7. He loves Disneyland!  8. He lets me sleep in on Saturdays.  9. When I don’t feel good or have a bad day, he cooks dinner.  10. He is so unselfish…he’s constantly thinking of me before himself.  11. He can always make me laugh, even when I’m angry.  12.  He praises me and builds me up every day.  13. He thinks I look cute in my glasses.  14. He is an AWESOME dad.  15. He explains things really well.  16. He puts up with my silly little preferences.  17. He knows me better than anyone.  18. He dances really cute.  19. He is one of the most patient people I know.  20. He helps me love God more.  21. He’s a good friend.  22. He is SO different than me!!  23. He’s a really good Bible Study leader.  24. He has taken the time to get to know my Russian family and Russian food!!  25. He makes really good coffee and popcorn, and plus, he’s a grill master.  26. “We’ll be fine, as long as we have each other… and plenty of snacks.”  27. He makes Jack laugh harder than anyone else can.  28. He knows movie quotes and 80’s music so much better than me, but he doesn’t get mad that I really don’t…  29. He has really good taste in restaurants and shopping.  30. He is a humble servant-leader, and loves me like Christ does.  Did I mention that he’s my best friend?

I Love You, Ryan!
