This is Bert.  Isn’t he cute?  Jack named him.

and here are a few Avery pics just for fun…

This is one of my favorite faces

and also…

Did you know that there’s a flower called the Yuletide Camellia?  I love it.  This picture doesn’t really show how deep the red is, but it’s beautiful.

It’s That Time of Year… December 27, 2008

Filed under: Holidays — Michelle @ 9:55 pm

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, dear blog readers!!

Life has still been sweet but not so simple lately, and blogging has been crowded out by more fun (and pressing) things.  🙂  We’re in Michigan right now, and very much enjoying our time with our Anthony side of the family.  When I blog again, it will probably be in 2009!!  Hope you have been able to take time to be still, rejoice and wonder at the miracle of Christ’s birth, and the hope His life brings to ours.  Praise be to God for His indescribable gift!!

We’re in Dallas this Thanksgiving visiting my uncle, aunt, and sweet 10-month old cousin!  My mom, sister and grandparents are here too, and we’ve been having tons of fun together.  I’ll blog more about it all later, but for now just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving!!  Hope you have had a wonderful day filled with many reminders of the blessings that come from above.  Our good God has given us so much to thank him for!  My heart is full.  The pic above is of Hope and Jackson, two little ones I am DEFINITELY thankful for.

Spring Scenes March 29, 2008

Here are a few views of our past week…

we’ve done some characteristically “spring” things, so I tried to capture them with collages…enjoy!

Last Saturday: Making Kulich and Sirny Paska with Aunt Vera, Aunt Letty, Jack, and my mom.  Kulich (“koo-leech”) is a traditional Russian sweet bread, and Sirny (“seernee”) Paska is a sweet cheese (it was decided by my soon-to-be-cousin Jessica that it is a sweet paste that comes close to the cheese in cheesecake).  Both are homemade, of course, and require almost a whole day of preparation.  Kulich is baked in coffee cans to give it a tall cylindrical shape.  My mom’s mom (Baba) was visiting my uncle and aunt and newest cousin in Dallas for Easter, but called us about 4 times that day just to make sure we were doing it right.  🙂

Easter Sunday: Christ Is Risen (“Христос Воскрес“)!  He Is Risen Indeed (“Воистину воскрес“)!!

(Now you know what the “XB” stands for )

Bottom Left: Sirny Paska, Bottom Right: Kulich.

Top with sugared strawberries and you have the taste of Easter!

P.S.  Thanks for the Easter outfits for both my boys, Mom A.!!  Jack managed to stay “clean and dry” in those shorts for most of the day…  🙂

Thursday: We spent a beautiful and refreshing day at Descanso Gardens

…with some beautiful people — my mom, sister Melissa, Aunt Kelly, cousin Caleb, and Shelby

Today: I got to go downtown with Lisa to the Flower District…such a fun and unique experience!  Lisa is doing wedding flowers for some friends of ours, and today was the preview day to get ideas.  I can’t wait to see how it turns out…she is amazing!

Here’s a few of the ones she’ll be using…you can’t really tell in the center pic, but our arms were completely FULL of HUGE bouquets of flowers (and they were heavy).  Next time we’ll do what we saw one girl doing and bring a rolling cooler to carry them in.  Thanks for the lilacs, Lis!!!  I had a great day with you!

Roses from my Valentine!

And…dinner at the Tam O’ Shanter.  This has been a Valentine tradition for Ryan and I since our first married Valentine’s Day in 2002!  Since dinner takes time here, it is a super relaxing and a refreshing time to really talk and catch up on life.  The restaurant has been around since 1922, and has a “Tudor inn” atmosphere. I highly recommend it…the food and the service are both excellent (if you ever visit, you have to try their dessert souffles…DUHLICIOUS!!)

The waiting area

The dining room we sat in…there are a few different ones.  I especially love the high-backed chairs.

pict7927.jpg

Our FOOD!!  Spinach and Artichoke Dip with warm pita bread for an appetizer, the “English Cut” of Prime Rib for me (with mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and Yorkshire pudding), “Filet Oscar” with a crab sauce and veggies for Ryan, and of course, Chocolate Souffle and Creme Brulee (we usually only get the souffle, but we felt like trying something new)…needless to say, we were stuffed!  (Side note: if it looks to you like I got a TON of food and Ryan didn’t, you’re right.  But don’t worry, I brought about half of mine home.  There. Now I feel better.)

I’m so thankful for my Valentine, and for the wonderful evening we had together!! pict7932.jpg

P.S.  (Thanks, Jamie, for being Jack’s Valentine tonight…:)

   Wishing You a Merry Christmas

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has come

to give His people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,

because of the tender mercy of our God…

to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death,

to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

Luke 1:68; 77-79
